SMRA seeks to recognize early career scientists who contributed to the mission of SMRA through engagement in MRA research and society activities. \u00a0This program is designed to provide junior fellows with unique experiences and insights into the working of the society, that might be beneficial for future leadership roles within or outside SMRA. \u00a0Furthermore, we hope that the fellowship will allow younger scientists to attend the annual meetings and provide additional communication pathways between junior SMRA members and SMRA leadership.<\/p>\n \n Applicants must be 35 years old or younger, hold a postgraduate medical degree, PhD, or equivalent doctoral degree. They must be currently enrolled in a residency or clinical fellowship program, working as a postdoctoral researcher, or within 3 years of their first academic appointment at the time of the application. The following application materials are required.<\/span><\/p>\n 2 fellowships shall be awarded each year, with one post-graduate medical fellow and one Ph.D. fellow<\/span><\/p>\n Involvement in SMRA: current and history.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n Involvement in MRA-related research.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n Nomination letter and statement of intent.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n Overall track record of conference abstracts \/ publications \/ awards.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n Diversity criteria including geographic representation, clinical\/physics expertise, EDI diversity in fellowship pool.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n The SMRA Awards Committee is responsible for application review and mentorship placement discussion. The committee is comprised of:<\/span><\/p>\n SMRA Past-presidents<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n SMRA Board members<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n SMRA early career committee members, including previous SMRA junior fellows<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n SMRA Junior Fellows will receive:<\/span><\/p>\n Waived annual meeting registration fee and a travel stipend to attend the annual meeting for the year of the award.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n Presentation at \u201cMeet the Junior Fellows\u201d session at the annual meeting.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n An invitation to join the on-site SMRA advisory board meeting, and trainee board membership for the year following award reception.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n A biographical interview that will be shared on the SMRA website\/social media.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n A designated senior SMRA mentor with expertise in the research area of the junior fellow. Mentors will be available to fellows for consultation regarding scientific research, future career trajectory. Mentors are encouraged to provide virtual lab visits to allow for scientific exchange across sites.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n Applications are accepted as of April 16, 2025.
