Board Leadership
The SMRA Board guides the Society’s activities and supports its members and professional community. You can learn more about the current Board and its work on the About SMRA page.
The Society’s bylaws set out its governance arrangements and provide further information about Board roles and the election process.
Nominations
When nominations are invited, SMRA members are encouraged to nominate eligible colleagues. Eligible members may also put themselves forward. Candidates must be Full SMRA Members in good standing, with no outstanding membership fees.
A nomination should include a short biography written by the nominee, outlining their background and relevant experience. If another member submits the nomination, the nominee’s agreement to stand and permission to share the biography should be obtained beforehand.

Candidate Review
The Board reviews nominations and confirms candidate eligibility. Candidates may be asked to provide an extended biography and confirm their willingness to serve.
Candidate information helps members understand each person’s experience, contribution to the Society and priorities. It may include:
- Professional background, relevant roles and achievements.
- Involvement with SMRA and other organisations.
- Motivation for serving on the Board and goals for the Society.
Supporting information and any further requirements are communicated directly to the candidates.
Voting
When a ballot is held, eligible Full SMRA Members in good standing can vote through the secure Members Area. Members receive instructions for the relevant ballot, including how to access candidate information, submit their choice and check that their vote has been recorded.
Each eligible member may vote once per ballot. A submitted vote cannot be changed. Individual choices are not displayed alongside members’ names or profiles; only final results are shared.
