As part of our SMRA Membership Program a new

Mentorship Program

is currently under development and will launch soon.

SMRA Mentorship Program

The SMRA Mentorship Program connects imaging trainees, undergraduate students, graduate students and early-career professionals who aspire to work in magnetic resonance angiography (MRA) and vascular imaging with experienced mentors from academia, clinical practice, industry, and entrepreneurship.

The program supports professional development, career exploration, and community-building within SMRA. Through one-to-one mentorship relationships, mentees receive guidance, perspective, and support to help navigate career decisions, transitions, and challenges.

A special focus of the program is to support individuals from underrepresented backgrounds by promoting inclusive mentorship, addressing career barriers, and fostering long-term professional growth.

The SMRA Mentorship Program is a continuous program and is not limited to the annual SMRA conference.

Who Can Participate?

Mentees:

Students, trainees, postdoctoral fellows, and early-career professionals.

Mentors:

Established SMRA members from academia, clinical practice, industry, or entrepreneurship.

Key Details

  • Minimum commitment: 6 months (up to 2 years).
  • No cap on number of meetings; regular communication encouraged.
  • Mentors and mentees would be expected to meet either virtually or in person at least two times annually.
  • Active SMRA membership required at the time of application
(Exceptions may be considered for applicants from low- and middle-income countries)

How It Works?

Applications and program resources are available through the SMRA Membership Area after registration.

  1. Submit an Expression of Interest in mentoring or receiving mentorship
  2. Complete a Mentorship profile and preferences
  3. Mentees are matched with potential mentors and may invite their preferred mentor
  4. Mentor–mentee pairs define goals, duration, and meeting frequency.

Apply

Application deadlines will be announced prior to each matching cycle.

By participating, mentors and mentees agree to adhere to the SMRA Code of Conduct.

All mentorship conversations are confidential unless agreed otherwise.

For nearly four decades, SMRA has been a close-knit, informally connected community of scientists, medics, and engineers – a society where science and friendship intertwined.

Our new membership programme keeps that spirit but gives it a proper digital home. It will help us improve our communications, offer structured support for early career researchers, and open our committees and leadership board to members.

Bringing the SMRA membership programme to life has been a true team effort. I would like to offer particular thanks to Anna, Oliver, Judit, and Susanne.
This October, our SMRA caravan sets up camp at the eastern terminus of the Silk Road, in Xi’an, China. We hope to see you there.
